Disneyland adventure!!!

 The Hawkes family has never set out an adventure that would last more than a weekend before. We were reminded about opposition in all things, and how blessed we really are :)
We planned this trip over 6 months ago and invited extended family to come along. Grandma Gifford and Bailey opted in and we were excited for months! The Friday before we were leaving Grandpa Gifford returned to heaven. How could we think of vacation at a time like this? It was really difficult for us all but the trip had been paid for and was non refundable so we attended the viewing and then took off, promising to pick up Grandma & Bailey on Tuesday from the airport, this was on Sunday.
So the Hawkes family loaded the borrowed natural gas bus, I mean van and headed to St. George. Things were great, time flew by and then 11:30 pm a loud bang, louder than any noise we had ever heard on the freeway. We pulled off and found a tire had blown. Jason quickly got the spare tire out only to find it covered in holes. It was of no use. Luckily we were right outside of Cedar City. We drove ever so gently and pulled off the closest exit. Every tire store was closed and no body could help us. Jason tried repairing the spare but it did no good. We were left to find a motel for the night, which by the way turned out to be the most disgusting hotel we had ever seen. It smelled bad, the door didn't close tight, and I promise the water was an off color!!! Morning came and Jason was up with sun getting 2 new tires from Wal-Mart (paid for, thank heaven, by the owners of the vehicle) We were on our way again and found Grandma Rich happy to see us, and feed us, and disappointed we couldn't stay longer. the drive was long but we found entertainment, thanks to modern technology and great music!

Natural gas station are spread pretty far so in order to get where your going you must fill up at every station available or you run out of gas. All the stations had been great, then we hit Barstow California...dun dun dun!!! The pumps were empty and so was the bus, I mean van. Literally we had nothing left but fumes. Fortunately another Utah family was there and gave us an address about 40 miles in our direction of a natural gas station. How were we going to make it? Nobody would tow us, and there was no way we had enough gas. We cried and yelled and prayed and got to Victorville 40 miles away on fumes and with angels carrying us for sure. It was at least 100 degrees and the air was left off during the trip but we made it! Once there the pump malfunctioned and by now the bank had turned off our debit cards because of suspicious activity across the country. We called the station attendant for help and he came and didn't ask any questions, just smiled and filled the tank for free and sent us on our way, WOW!!! The final destination couldn't have come any faster. We arrived safe and sound at our FABULOUS hotel where we swam, prayed with much gratitude and swam until we were exhausted.

Grandma & Bailey arrived safely the next day and we park hoped it up until wee hours of the morning for 2 days. Thursday was a rest day and we wanted to go to the beach so Jason found that farthest beach he could find and we made our way there quickly and with no trouble at all. We had a bug cooler full of food and drinks and plenty of toys for lots of fun on the beach. We body surfed, burried each other in the sand chowed and had a great time. We were all packed and ready to go, walking to the bus, I mean van, and Jason asked "where are the keys?" None of us knew, he had been driving all week, keys never crossed our minds. Then Brandie remembered Ellie had been playing with a key and  it hit us that the key was in the sand where our towels had been. We searched for HOURS, no luck, we prayed several times, called locksmith after locksmith with no luck until a man said he would make us a new key for $200...YEAH RIGHT!!! Then Brandie spotted the beach patrol and asked there opinion, they recommended we wait for a man with a metal detector, he comes evrey night they said. So here comes this old man decked from head to toe in metal detecting gear and searches for EVER with no luck. Brandie turns to Jason and says, "call the locksmith" seriously in unioson the man pulls the keys from the sand!!!! MIRACULOUS, only by the grace of God did that happen. IF you are still reading this, don't you EVER forget your tithing!!! It saved our trip time and again!!! Our ride back to the hotel was long, very long and we felt starved and exhausted not to mention we all needed to pee, lol

From then on, including our trip home, we were blessed with peace and everything turned out great!

Almost March...

Really this year is flying by! Thank you for counting my family blog into your life. I can only say I've made it this far by the tender mercies of a fabulous Father in Heaven. I am finally able to swallow!!! Those who have no clue what that means...a few months ago I choked pretty bad on some food and continued having problems with things being stuck in my esophagus since then. I had no clue what was causing it, and got to the point where all I was consuming was liquids. I was even scared to drink. I lost 15 lbs (not a fun way to lose wight I might add) I was referred to a Gastroenterologist and he set me up a week later for an endoscopy and biopsies of my upper GI tract. During that outpatient procedure they found that my esophagus had been inflamed due to slow acting allergies and it had cause my throat to grow together leaving only a 3mm opening for food and liquid to pass through. That's the 3 smallest lines on a measuring tape.  They opened the stricture and dilated my throat to an 11mm opening (normal is 18-20) That was January 7th. I am not fully recovered yet, and since then have been to allergy specialists, holistic Doctors and talked to my Gastro and family Dr. a thousand times. They diagnosed me with some crazy disease called Eosiniphilic Esophagitis. Which basically means allergies that act slowly and in my case cause inflammation. They all told me to stay away from dairy, wheat, seafood, eggs, soy, nuts, & chicken. Needless to say I cried for weeks and pleaded for a miracle. After eliminating all of those foods, I feel the same except I can swallow. I was really week, and have just started regaining energy for life. I still eat a very restricted diet, but cheat when something seems worth it for the taste. Last week I had a HUGE learning experience and feel confident that this trial is on the downhill slope. I know that healing is possible and hope for that! This has been a great lesson on humility, brought me and Jason closer than I ever thought possible, taught me to fast, and made me extremely grateful for ALL of the blessings I do have. I have good days and bad days, and sometimes satan wins by tricking me into depression, but I'm still fighting, and usually win the battles with him. There are some families in our ward that willingly bring meals to my girls on the nights Jason isn't home so I don't have to make a meal for me and a separate one for them. What a huge blessing that alone has been for me. Sometimes I can actually feel the healing power of someones prayers on my behalf.

Develpoing Jasons talents :)

Jason Has always been a closet artist, not even his mom knows how good he is...he draws pictures on the mirrors with dry erase markers for the girls when he knows he'll be gone for a few days. He send letters to us in the mail with fun hand drawn pictures for us to color. He literally can draw anything he can see, and he can draw it perfectly in any size. This year our ward needed an artist to draw life size animals for the nativity at the ward party, so I signed him up!!! ;) Luckily he was game and his work turned out AMAZING! He drew on thin pieces of ply wood, then cut them out and painted the detail. He truly wowed our ward and his wife!!!

Ellie bean!

Jasie started calling her little sister Ellie bean and so it is, her nickname forever more. Ellie is SOO much fun, she is all smiles and the girls love taking turns holding, playing with, and feeding her. I can NEVER get enough snuggles from her, at least she like to snuggle to! She is very patient with her sisters thank HEAVEN!

Christmas time!!

So thanks for looking after this long even though we've been dormant :( I seriously haven't had time to update this blog unless I set my alarm and wake up in the middle of the night.

Fun in the SUN!!!

Memorial day came and we thought a vacation was in order so we packed the mini van and headed South. We visited lots of GOOD friends, and of course Grandma Rich. We played at the Rain Tree swimming pool, the splash pad, had a picnic at Vernon Worthen park and had a few late nights catching up with everyone. The girls had a blast and never wanted to leave Grandmas house. Grandma was so cute, she had stocked up on bananas, PB&J fixins, and of course cookies :) We had TONS of fun!!! Saturday night we went to the cemetery and put flowers and flags on Grandpa Richs' grave. Grandma was so happy to do this with us. Sunday we visited whats left of our old family ward and caught up with a few friends from there. Maybe someday we'll end up back there...it sure felt like going home.

Spring Piano Recital

The littles love to have their own recital at home on the organ too!!!
For Easter Chelsie got a childrens hymn book and is determined to learn all the songs...both hands. For her Spring recital she played How Much is That Doggie in the Window and Book of Mormon Stories. She was a STAR! Her piano teacher LOVES her...but then again who doesn't?

Ellie 5 weeks & counting!!!

Ellie was 5 weeks old on Monday and SUPER healthy. She nurses like a champ and sleeps 5-7 hours a night :) We are all in love with her! The girls love taking turns holding her all day...Sydnie wants to hold her the most and is VERY gentle and loving with her. Thanks to all of you that kept us in your prayers and did so much to help during our time of need.

Ellie Elizabeth 3-15-2010

Ellie was put on a ventilator and transferred to IMC NICU (where she spent the 1st 8 days of her life). Nobody was allowed to hold her, but before the transfer Brandie was able to take her by the hand, and she received a priesthood blessing.

When Ellie was born she had the cord wrapped around her neck and it caused her to take in some fluid which caused her to get pneumonia :( On the video you can see that her lungs collapsed and her chest was retracting. She was breathing 100 times per minute, that's more than once per second.

If anyone is still out there...with hope for a new post :)

Sydnie has managed to talk us in to making snow angles every time fresh snow appears.

Jasie Turned 2...WHAT!?!

Jason was sworn in as an "OFFICIAL" Firefighter/Paramedic in Murray city. (December)

Chelsie had her 1st piano recital, yes it was in October, but it still counts ;)

It's Christmas time in the city...

This year for Christmas we decided to do something different. Instead of purchasing gifts for our family and friends we chose to do sub for Santa. We also filled stockings for the "forgotten patients" at the Utah state mental hospital. The girls helped by making cards to put in each stocking and helped pick out things from the store that they thought would be meaningful or needed. It was a great experience for us all and hope you can enjoy this gift we give to you.

Confess something at least!

1- I've been avoiding my blog because I'm overwhelmed with pictures that are on the computer, need to be uploaded and most of all need to be developed...I can't keep track I got to far behind.
2- I'm leaving my family from Thurs-Mon and I don't feel one bit guilty :)
3- I've gained 5 lbs...17 weeks down, almost half way to cute baby!
4- My butt is seriously numb from sitting her playing Tetris for the last hour...can you say ADDICTED!!!
5- I still don't feel so great, but a healthy baby is worth the sacrifice...right? LOL

The time has come...dun dun dun!

1. I wish I could just sit on the table and eat an apple, and be perfectly content and entertained to do so.
2. I don't let my kids eat a lot of sweets because I want them to take good care of their bodies but I sneak treats in my mouth behind their backs, MUAHAHA!!! (I'm old enough to decide for myself...LOL)
3. I, with Jason's help of course, converted Jasie's crib into the toddler bed. After about 1 hour of putting her back into her bed I turned the crib around so the open side faced the wall and gave up on that idea for now. Aa I still have 6 months minimum to reach that point.:)
4. My husband...nauseates me. I know that sounds bad but think of how I feel! He is an AWESOME guy and I can't stand to smell him or feel him or blah...hopefully morning sickness goes away sooner than later.
5. I'm sarcastic, no really I am!

Confessions of an exhausted mommy

1. I am confessing to be 11 weeks pregnant. I'm hoping for a boy. I spent the 4-8th weeks of this pregnancy bleeding and clotting and CRYING!!! After a blessing and a trip to the ultrasound room, lots of blood work and 3 trips to my OBG, everything was fine and I am feeling sick (good sign) NOT FUN! LOL
2. I attract lots of "mental" people, some I had to let go of, and others I can't live without. Seriously I have 4 very close relationships with people that are Bi-polar and I love them to death. I wish there was a way to help :(
3. I slouch, whew, glad I got that out there.
4. I'm really scared to gain all of my pregnancy weight. I just got rid of the last of my baby weight from Syd & Jasie. I just want to be like Whitney when I grow up ;)
5. We finally added another boy to our family. His name is Brewsky (manly name right?) he is a Border Colly puppy...so CUTE! I mean STUDLY. ha ha ha

Brandies birthday

I think 27 is close to 30 but I said that the other day and someone said, not even close...LOL I guess if I was scared of 30 then that would be true but I'm talking numbers and seriously I am close to 30...I can't believe it I still feel 18. And I remember thinking that 30 was really old...LOL now I think 75 is old ;) My birthday was filled with dreaded morning sickness, BLAH however I did get to read Twilight in my bed for a few hours and I got the Twilight soundtrack and new gummy ear plugs for my MP3 AND lets not leave out yummy homemade pancakes for breakfast from my hubby. Chelsie and Bailey (my brother) dressed up and did a little gig for me at dinner LOL and on Sat. My Stone parents took me and J to a Luau where I was tricked onto the stage and danced in front of everyone...AAAA embarrassing.

Back to School

1st day of school 2009 I cried at back to school night for Chelsie and clapped when I took Sydnie to pre-school...LOL Kids grow so fast!

Camping

We had 2 super fun camping trips in one month! The 1st we went up to somewhere (can't remember the name) with some family friends, it took 5 hours to get there because someone wouldn't call for directions until 10pm. I saw this happen on movies before but never thought it would happen in real life...JASON!!! We did have fun though despite peeing on the ground and getting rained on. Sami (Jason's sis came with us, her 1st time camping...what?!?!) sheltered girl, LOL
The second adventure was only an hour away to a family reunion. We played cards, Jason took the kids fishing, Chelsie and her cousins built a house where they cleaned the ground and made rooms with rugs and a kitchen and furniture, it was so cute and it had cold storage...yes I said cold storage. We had lots of good food and there was a lot of laughing. Brandie got to relax a lot because too much of anything could set off her oh so sensitive stomach right now. What does that mean you ask? Yes it means what you think, baby Hawkes #4 will arrive in Late March early April 2010...YEAH!!! We are praying for a BOY,and you should to! ;)

To whom I may confess...

1. I went potty in the woods...A LOT, then I buried it so nobody could see(we were camping)
2. My fav. part of my camping trip was watching everyone else catch fish and then watching them fillet the fish and then watching them cook the fish, but I got to eat it! YUM!!!
3. I would a thousand times rather ride on a wave runner than a four-wheeler, I am a water sports girl what can I say. (I like to feel the sun on my almost naked body)
4. I really love when every single thing I own is put its place facing forward, however, I can deal with the fact that few things will really be that way while I have children living at home.
5. Teaching primary is so AMAZING! I learn so much each week. I feel confident to admit that I am on an 8yr old gospel level. :)

Friday night confession.

1. Family is and always has been my TOP priority.
2. I held my brand new baby niece today 5lbs 15oz, and it made me overwhelmingly baby hungry...UH-OH!
3. I could care less if my name is spelled wrong but I need to make sure you know you spelled it wrong. LOL
4. A guy I dated in high school found me on face book and randomly said "remember when I fell in the sewer on our date? Well really I pooped my pants" WHAT?!?! Why did he need to tell me that? Was he feeling guilty for lying? WOW! (we only dated for a few weeks)
5. I want to eat a snack right now but it's 11pm, not a good idea Brandie go to bed!
